Bay Society Pt. 4

Monica paused at the doorway to the nursery to watch her husband with the twins. Theodore was busy with his bricks while Sabrina giggled uncontrollably and yelled “again, again!”
The nursery was Randal’s first stop everyday when he arrived home from work at the construction company, but he arrived home late and left early before the sun came up which left Monica alone with twin toddlers experiencing the terrible twos at exactly the same time. Neither was a hellion, but they could be a handful.
“Randal, what do you think about a live-in nanny?” Monica asked with some hesitation. She didn’t want him to think that she was pawning off the children but she could use a little help, especially with the Winter Fete coming up. She wanted this party to be perfect, so perfect that the Voice wouldn’t have anything to whisper.
“Sure, hon,” Randal dangled a wriggling Sabrina, “It would give you some time to relax.”

“She has 3 grandchildren of her own,” Catherine supported her contender for Winfield nanny. “and she keeps up with all of them. She’s also handy with a wrench and loves to cook? Isn’t that right, Rose?” Catherine lauded her contenders achievements, but neglected to mention Rose’s predilection for pain pills. Dr. Holdon had given the idea the green light and he would never have done that if he feared a relapse, she reasoned.
“Well…” Monica hesitated, she had never hired a nanny before and wasn’t quite sure what to ask. She had envisioned a younger woman, but Rose looked like a grandma and that was endearing, besides a younger woman would just be a temptation, not that she thought Randal would ever consider such a thing but just in case, “Would you like to meet the children? They are upstairs playing.”

Theo giggled at Rose’s tickling and reached out to be picked up. That was enough for Monica, Sabrina would like anyone who paid attention to her but Theo was more reserved. His approval was a definite sign.
Rose was given rooms on the third floor of High Lawn, right above the nursery so she could hear should her new charges require her in the middle of the night. She began her duties right away with bubble baths for both children. Her arrival was a relief to Monica, who was still busy planning the decorations and menu for the Winter Fete. The guest list had already been completed and the invitations sent out, the party was just two days away.

That was how Rose, former Horizon’s resident, found herself listening to her new employer read the Society Voice column aloud over breakfast a few days later.

“Mrs. Winfield will be indisposed. She is quite upset about today’s column in the paper, so you and I will need to take care of the house,” Rose explained.
Arcadia didn’t care for being told what to do by the hired help, they were on the same social scale after all but she liked Monica so she listened to the list and for the first time since she had been hired, completed it before leaving for the day and thanked her lucky stars that she wasn’t worthy of a mention by the Voice.

Yay, the twins! And wow, what an article. No wonder poor Monica is ‘indisposed’… and Elizabeth’s been ousted! Ohno! Hahaha, wow. It’s exactly like reading one of those tabloids.
edit: Thank goodness the twins are average looking, I was scared after Alexa lol Daddy dearest finally shows up and of course Veronica manages to get herself involved

I left a comment but it got eaten somehow. >:( Basically: The twins are adorable, the voice is fierce, I’m loving the way you do the column, The Winter Fete was awesome, I thought Zeeshan was Cornelius. Great update!
edit: Sorry ’bout that, it was probably the site. It’s been wonky all day running a process or something. As you can tell, I’m not the technical one lol
Thank you, I love writing the Voice. I may never let Robert solve the mystery just so I can keep writing it
Throwing a party is always interesting with this group and now that Zee has turned up, we see where LC got that honker of a nose! Yikes!

Ah, the Voice! Interesting that someone suggested it could be a man. The Voice is so catty, I had assumed it was a woman, but anything is possible!
edit: Veronica theorized that the Voice was a man too, mostly because her cutting edge fashions were never mentioned

Catherine is really helping her friends get back in society. Yay for Rose. That was some party. I would have never guessed Zee as the father. Elizabeth and Daddy has been outed. WOW wonder what that is going to do to the business. I can’t wait to see what happens.
edit: Catherine is emptying rehab into society, we’ll have to see how that goes
Zee and Elizabeth had one date when they were teenagers then he disappeared…typically townie. So much for the respectable Mendenhalls

But… it’s not the *same* nose- Ze has the Goopy face, and LC has the remnants of the Maria Bendett face- I’m wondering if that’s on purpose or not…
edit: I’m now on a mission to do a side by side profile comparison lol Maybe Zee is an impostor then again, if genetics were always spot on, Alexa woudn’t be so ug..unattra..unique looking

Who would have thought that we would finally learn the identity of LC’s dad at the Christmas party. That is a whole lot of drama for one event
edit: ah, the holidays always bring families together

Hurray! For Rose’s new life and Monica’s nice party! Who the hell is the Voice? Thank god i’m not one of the guest!
edit: Rose needed to get out of rehab, what a miserable place to spend your golden years. The Voice is…ha, no way am I telling

I really love your story and your writing style. Maybe I am having a D’oh moment, but is there supposed to be writing or something accompanying the pictures for the Voice column. If so, I don’t see it at all.
I don’t want to miss any of your story! Thanks!
edit: Thank you very much
Not a d’oh moment at all lol the Voice appears infrequently to stir things up for the residents, she’s had 4 columns so far. When she does have a column, there’s a link (in bold blue text) to it worked into the text of the main post that will open her column in a new window when clicked. In this case, the link was just after the pic of Monica reading the paper with Rose over breakfast.
Usually the pics related to the Voice’s column follow just after the link to her column and the pics don’t have text in the main post because most of the time the Voice will cattily comment on the events herself.
